Adult Swim had a hit with their online game Robot Unicorn Attack and parlayed that into an awesome iPhone application. Now, Facebook is home to this star ramming platformer that melds awesome graphics with fun and addictive game play.

I’m the first person to say that 99 percent of the time unicorns are about as manly as Richard Simmons in a tutu – an image that I have actually scene at least twice in my life. Adult Swim Games have created game that somehow makes rainbows and unicorns manly and all they had to do was add the word robot.

Robot Unicorn Attack

The player takes the form of a robotic unicorn that rainbow hair as he runs through a “fantasy landscape” at full gallop and must jump perilous cliffs, collect fairies and ram stars in order to gain a high score. If you hit a star without dashing, run into a mountain or fall into the watery abyss, then the player’s rainbow colored butt dies and is resurrected again using a wish. Players get three wishes and then have to start over with a score of zero.

The controls are simple. Players don’t have any control over speed or direction. The robounicorn runs forward and the player uses the X key to jump or double jump and the Z key to dash into stars and causes them to explode. The further in the course the player gets, the faster the action until it’s a rainbow blur of manic jumping and dashing. This can make things a little confusing because players are eventually in a constant state of jumping, dashing or both.

There doesn’t seem to be any kind of power-ups, but what appears to be a rainbow dolphin does like to follow underneath you. High scores are recorded on a tournament board that keeps track of the player’s score along with those of friends. Every week the tournament board is reset for a new competition.

The graphics of the Robot Unicorn Attack are excellent with an ever-changing rainbow main and a rainbow trail when he jumps and dashes stars. It has a metallic sheen and you can definitely tell it’s supposed to be robotic. The game is addictive it is not surprising that it has been a hit both online and on the iPhone.

The only thing that I can really find fault is that the terrain is predictable and it would be nice if things changed up a bit. It’s the same background and obstacles over and over again, but a little faster. I would like to see possibly additional areas to explore or some power-ups to help control the speed or give you a get-out-of-running-into-a-star-and-die card

Robot Unicorn Attack is a welcome game to the platformer genre on Facebook and I can see it that there is likely a pit of gold at the end of that rainbow.
